The issue of complex surface generation using profiled tools and, also, CNC machine tools is a hard concern of international research teams.
In following, the defining issues of research directions, as results from the bibliographical analysis, will be presented.
In present, special CAD/CAM/CAE methods are developed with broad applications in manufacturing engineering.
They are used mainly analytical design methods, but, increasingly more make their way graphical methods.
The general objective of the project is the synthesis of graphical design algorithms, computer assisted, of tools designed for machining complex surfaces.
In order to achieve the general objective they were established the following objectives and activities:
Ob. 1. The algorithmic for profiling by non-analytical methods the tools that generate by enveloping, using rolling method.
Act. 1.1. Applications for profiling rack-gear and rotary cutter tool.
Act. 1.2. Applications in profiling gear-shaped tool.
Ob. 2. The synthesis of specific algorithm for non-analytical profiling of tools for generation of helical surfaces.
Act. 2.1. Applications for profiling tools bounded by revolution primary peripheral surfaces.
Act. 2.2. Applications for profiling tools bounded by cylindrical surfaces.
Ob. 3. The synthesis of non-anlytical methods for profiling tools that generate by enveloping with single point contact.
Act. 3.1. Applications for profiling hob mill for generation of ordered curls of surfaces, cylindrical helical with constant pitch (external teeth).
Ob. 4. Algorithmic for complex surface generations with preformed revolution tools.
Act. 4.1. Applications in generation of complex surfaces of helical compressors rotors.
Ob. 5. Functional optimization of tool’s cutting edges form.
The current approaches in domain of cutting tools for complex surface generation gave solutions for surface enveloping based on the fundamental or complementary theorems. In both cases, the solutions are based on analytical methods, which, although rigorous from mathematical point of view, may be less intuitive and may give results difficult to be interpreted and applied in technique.
